Chongqing - Vienna Culture Festival 2016
The Chongqing-Vienna Culture Festival 2016 hosted by the government of the Central District in Chongqing and organized by Chongqing Training Center for International Cooperation will take place from the 16th to the 19th of October. The Twin-Cities Culture Festival will showcase Vienna’s worldwide prestigious cultural features and is aimed at creating a major culture gathering, bringing together participants from China and Europe.
The Festival will host various forms of activities and events in order to create a long-term platform for development, exchange and cooperation between Chongqing, the central city along the upper reach of the Yangtze River and Vienna, the worldly well-known city for its culture and music - and between China and Europe at large to enrich the cultural life and to create more opportunities for academic and business cooperation.
Interview with Mr. Obermayr - Head of the Austrian Cultural Forum - about the "Chongqing - Vienna Culture Festival 2016"
I am SINA’s reporter, the media partner of the "Chongqing - Vienna Culture Festival 2016" supported by the UNMCSR-SNC. We are delighted that you agreed to take the time to answer our questions.
1. Mr. Wu Jianbo has conveyed to us your enthusiasm and support regarding the upcoming Chongqing-Vienna Festival, would you please tell us more about your expectations?
I have seen the enthusiasm and professionalism with which the preparations of the festival are been undertaken by the organizers of this festival and I am convinced that it is going to be a huge success. Let me use this opportunity to thank the City Government of Chongqing very much for making this festival possible. The program is very diverse, covers many fields of common interest but also brings the typical “sound of Austria” to Chongqing. I am looking forward to listen to the collaborative performances of Chinese and Austrian musicians. The festival will also create many opportunities to establish or deepen cooperation’s in many fields between Chongqing and various partners from Vienna. This year we also celebrate 45 years of diplomatic relations between the People´s republic of China and Austria and this festival is a further proof of our strong relationship.
2. Mr. Obermayr, it is our understanding that through this culture festival, UNMCSR-SNC is aiming to enrich the Sino-Austrian Relations, promote the Viennese culture to the locals of Chongqing, create an inter-cultural bridge between the two cities and are planning to establish a Sino-Austrian culture promotion center. That center will be dedicated for Austrian cultural industries promotions, products displays and experiential events. It will also present a chance for Chinese cultural businesses to meet with their Austrian counterparts, seeking potential collaborations. What are your thoughts about this long-term project?
Every project that helps to strengthen our bilateral relationship and create an inter-cultural bridge between the two cities is very welcome.
3. After the conclusion of this cultural festival, “the international festival of silk road cities”, will be an annual Chongqing event. It will also be supported by the Chongqing government and UN-MCSR. Vienna, as one of the first cities to join hands with Chongqing, will have a place every year to participate with elements of its culture. How do you think such a festival facilitates and catalyzes the Sino-Austrian and Sino-European cultural exchanges?
People to people contact are of utmost importance to understand each other better and build long lasting networks. With events such like “the international festival of silk road cities” cultural exchanges between Austria but also with Europe are facilitated and help to foster better mutual cooperation and exchanges on various levels.
4. We know you have been hearing a lot about Chongqing throughout the preparation for the festival. So, if the Chongqing you are anticipating were a piece of music, what kind of music would it be? Would it be a classic song or a symphony or something else?
I have been indeed hearing a lot about Chongqing and had many contacts with very active and motivated people from there who are organizing this event. I only arrived in China end of last year and did not have a chance yet to visit Chongqing. I am very much looking going there. Well, if Chongqing were a piece of music I would rather think it would be primarily a contemporary piece of music; a mixture of modern Jazz with some elements of classical songs.
Thank you for your reply in advance, and we hope to have the honor of interviewing you in person as part of the Chongqing-Vienna culture festival in October 2016.
