Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl appoints career diplomat Désirée Schweitzer as Director General of the Development Section at the Federal Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs. ”With the appointment of Désirée Schweitzer on International Women's Day, it is the first time that there has been an equal number of male and female directors general in the Foreign Ministry“, said Karin Kneissl. “

said the Foreign Minister.
Désirée Schweitzer entered the diplomatic service in 1988. In her last high-ranking role, she was the liaison ambassador of the 2017 Austrian Chairmanship of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe. She has been deeply involved in development work for decades and is a founding member as well as chairperson of Club 0.7%. Founded in 1988 and part of the Foreign Ministry, the association’s members commit to fulfilling the UN goal by way of private action and to date have donated 0.7 per cent of their salaries to support micro projects in 64 countries and regions. Having spent a number of years as a high-ranking international civil servant at the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, where as Deputy Co-ordinator, she assumed responsibility for environmental activities, energy security as well as the entire spectrum of the Sustainable Development Goals, she is now returning to the Foreign Ministry.
