Foreign Minister of Andorra explains programme for the presidency of the Council of Europe to State Secretary Lopatka

Business opportunities for Austrian companies

Vienna, 22 November 2012 – State Secretary Reinhold Lopatka received the Foreign Minister of Andorra, Gilbert Saboya, for a business meeting today. Saboya came to Vienna to present the working programme for Andorra’s presidency in the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministersto the OSCE Council. This is the first major multilateral task assumed by the Pyrenean country only a few days ago. Austria is currently in the troika of the European Council, together with Andorra und Armenia. “We support Andorra and its ambitious program for the presidency and expect this close cooperation to create positive synergies for our presidency from November 2013 until May 2014,” Lopatka stated after the meeting. Since Andorra will issue its own euro coins from 2013, there is a good chance that Münze Österreich will also produce euro coins for Andorra. “I am delighted that this internationally leading Austrian company also receives acclaim in Andorra as a world-wide market leader in this sector,” the State Secretary remarked. Andorra is also interested in Austria’s expertise in the health sector.

The good bilateral relations between Austria and Andorra have a long-standing tradition. When the modern democratic constitution that became effective in 1993 was developed, Austrian experts advised the supporters of the constitutional initiative. State Secretary Lopatka definitely wants to intensify the relations with Andorra, “I suggested to Foreign Minister Saboya that Andorra could make use of the programme offered by the Vienna based International Anti-Corruption Academy –IACA” the State Secretary said. Other topics at the meeting were the opening-up of Andorra’s economy, as well as the establishment of closer relations with the EU.

The Foreign Minister of the Principality of Andorra also used his two-day visit to Vienna to present Andorra´s new economic focus at the Diplomatic Academy Vienna.
