Spindelegger: "A great personal success for Christoph Waltz"

Foreign Minister congratulates Waltz on the Oscar

Vienna, 8 March 2010 – Just a quarter of an hour after the beginning of this year’s  Academy Awards ceremony, the waiting was over for Christoph Waltz: The 53-year old Austrian was the first in the evening to receive the Oscar in the category "Best Supporting Actor" from the hands of Spanish actress Penélope Cruz. 

"I congratulate  Christoph Waltz on his winning of the Oscar and I am very happy for his great personal success", said Foreign Minister Michael Spindelegger, obviously delighted with the awarding of the Oscar to Christoph Waltz for his role of Hans Landa in the film "Inglourious Basterds".

"This year's award ceremony, and the Oscar nominations of Michael Haneke and Christian Berger are a proof of Austria's potential as a film nation. I am glad that Austria receives such great international acknowledgment for its contemporary cultural activities", Spindelegger concluded.
