Edirne, 27 May 2010 – The new Austrian Honorary Consulate in Edirne began its operation on 20 May. Hüssein Siragezen, a lawyer by profession, was appointed Honorary Consul. Edirne is located in the Turkish-Greek-Bulgarian country triangle, and represents the EU border for Turkey. During the summer, some 12,000 Austrian vehicles cross the border here every day.

Edirne currently houses the eighth Austrian Honorary Consulate in Turkey (further Austrian honorary consulates are planned in Samsun and Gaziantep).
