First cut of the spade for Austrian project in Turkey

Ankara, 28 June 2010 – The first cut of the spade for the development of Turkey’s largest ski region, in which several Austrian companies will be playing an instrumental role, took place yesterday during a solemn ceremony in the region of Kayseri in Central Anatolia.

„The recently signed memorandum of understanding in the area of culture, and the tourism agreement between Turkey and Austria are an expression of the close bilateral relation of the two states“, said Austria’s Ambassador Heidemaria Gürer in her opening speech.

Foreign Minister Michael Spindelegger expressly welcomed the growing engagement of Austrian businesses in the Black Sea Region, one of the priority regions of Austrian foreign policy, which is clearly reflected in this project. For instance, the tourism concept for the region was developed by „ATC“ and „Klenkhart“, and the Vorarlberg-based company „Doppelmayr“ will be in charge of installing the lift systems. The overall management of this large-scale project was assigned to the Austrian Honorary Consul, Mehmet Eglenceoglu.

The numerous guests at yesterday’s festivities included Turkey’s Energy Minister Taner Yildiz, and Tourism and Culture Minister Ertugrul Günay.
