Vienna, 8 July 2010 – For the 30th year, her Majesty Queen Noor Al-Hussein of Jordan invites children aged 14 to 16 from around the world to a children congress in Amman. Austria will be participating at the congress for the third time this year.
This year’s congress will be focusing on the protection of the environment. It aims at giving children an understanding of important issues such as climate change and environmental pollution and their impact on health, the economy, and social development, as well as of alternative methods of energy generation.
As in the previous two years, Austria will be sending a delegation consisting of two girls, two boys, and an accompanying adult person.
This year, the children will be coming from the Vienna gymnasium BRG/BORG Polgarstrasse in the 22nd district. They will be spending the week from 12 to 18 July with other children from the Arab Region, the United States, Australia, and some European participating countries. The objective of the conference is to help the children become acquainted with each other, to participate in workshops, and to practically and concretely experience intercultural dialogue and the importance of diversity as a contribution toward peace, tolerance, and solidarity.
