Amman, 23 November 2009 – On 21 and 22 November 2009, the Villa-Lobos Trio gave guest performances during a concert tour in Amman organized by the Austrian Embassy.
During two concerts – on 21 November in the modern „Al Hussein Cultural Center“ and on 22 November in the „Wadi Rum Hall“ of the Jordan University – the Brazilian-German-Austrian ensemble confronted the Central European music tradition of works of Joseph Haydn and Johannes Brahms with Latin American music by Heitor Villa-Lobos, O.L. Fernandez, and Astor Piazzolla. This combination was further enriched with Arab music, during a special workshop held with students of the faculty of Arts and Design.
During the two celebrated performances, the Villa-Lobos Trio succeeded in building a bridge between these so often different music cultures, and by adding a Trish Trash Polka by Johann Strauss performed as an encore, it also brought a touch of New Year’s Eve concert to Amman.
