Moscow, 7 October 2009 – Together with its co-hosts, namely the Pushkin Museum, LGT Bank and Sotheby’s Moscow Office, the Cultural Forum invited two hundred guests to view an exclusive exhibition, listen to a violin concert and attend a reception held at the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts.
The guests of honour were Princess Isabella and Prince Philipp of Liechtenstein (former CEO and current Chairman of the Supervisory Board of LGT), who gave a short personal address to those present. Johann Kräftner, Director of Vienna’s Liechtenstein Museum, who earlier in the afternoon had given a lecture at the Pushkin Museum on the collections and history of his museum at the Cultural Forum’s invitation, and the head of the Cultural Forum also welcomed the audience before the concert began.
The concert itself was performed by young Austrian violinist and soloist Katharina Engelbrecht. Accompanied by a pianist, she enchanted the audience with music by Brahms, Schubert, Paganini and Stravinsky, playing on an Italian master violin sponsored by the Austrian National Bank. After the performance the Cultural Forum gave a reception in the Museum’s Greek Courtyard.
Following the presentation of Liechtenstein literature at the Austria Library in Moscow attended by Liechtenstein’s Foreign Minister Aurelia Frick and an academic symposium at the Pushkin Museum on the Biedermeier period in the field of fine arts, literature and garden design attended by academics from Russia and Austria, yesterday’s gala reception was the highlight of the Biedermeier programme organised by the Austrian Cultural Forum. Further events of this cycle to be hosted by the Austrian Cultural Forum and its partners are two concerts, also at the Pushkin Museum, scheduled for 5th November (Schubert lieder sung by Natalya Sidorenko and Mikhail Davydov) and 4th December (piano music of the Biedermeier period performed by Gottfried Wallisch).
