Vienna, 2 November 2005 - On Friday, 4 November, Foreign Minister Ursula Plassnik will deliver an address on the occasion of the commemorative ceremony "Thank you, Switzerland", which will start at 11 a.m. at the "Berner Hof".
The event "Thank you, Switzerland" was organised by the Austrian Embassy in Berne together with the Swiss Ministry for Foreign Affairs. In particular, it commemorates the "Swiss Children’s Aid", which in the years after the Second World War made it possible for numerous malnourished Austrian children to spend a holiday with a Swiss family.
The event will also be attended by the Swiss Foreign Minister, Federal Councillor Micheline Calmy-Rey.
Prior to this event Plassnik and Calmy-Ray will meet for talks which will focus on Austria’s forthcoming EU Presidency and the bilateral relations between Switzerland and the European Union.
At 5.30 p.m. Foreign Minister Ursula Plassnik will make a speech on "Austria’s experiences as a member of the European Union and prospects of the EU Presidency 2006".
