Plassnik: “Israel’s right to exist must not be called into doubt“

Foreign Minister Plassnik on remarks by Iran’s President about Israel

Vienna, 27 October 2005 - "I have heard the remarks made about Israel by Iran’s President Ahmadinejad with great concern", said Foreign Minister Ursula Plassnik. She had immediately contacted the Austrian Embassy in Tehran for a report, which confirmed the statements made by the Iranian President.

"We are very concerned about these remarks. They are completely unacceptable. Israel’s right to exist must not be called into doubt", said Plassnik, adding that the Iranian chargé d’affaires had been summoned to the Ministry for Foreign Affairs to clarify the matter.

Austria would discuss the further procedure with her partners in the European Union, concluded Plassnik.
