Iranian Ambassador in Vienna asked to come to Ministry for Foreign Affairs

The Secretary-General for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Dr. Johannes Kyrle, asked the Iranian Ambassador in Vienna to come to the Foreign Ministry today and emphatically rejected the remarks made by the Iranian President regarding Israel that were broadcast in the media.

Back on 27 October Foreign Minister Plassnik had already described earlier remarks made by the Iranian President as "completely unacceptable" and emphasised that "Israel's right to exist must not be called into doubt".

Secretary-General Kyrle underlined the fact that the state of Israel was established by the United Nations; moreover, as a member of the UN for decades Israel had been given clear legitimisation by the international community of states.

The Iranian Ambassador agreed to notify the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs without delay.
