With 4% of the African land mass and 5% of the total African population, South Africa is producing 23% of Africa’s total GDP. Approx. one third of Austrian trade with Africa is done with South Africa, which makes the country Austria’s biggest trading partner on the continent in 2016.

Austria’s exports to South Africa amounted to € 435.62 million in 2016 and consisted mainly of machinery and equipment, vehicles and construction material, whereas imports stood at € 311.43 million, consisting predominantly of commodities such as iron ore and cellulose, as well as vehicles and semi-finished products.
