16 January 2017 - Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz travelled to Kiev in his capacity as the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office. Directly after his arrival, Minister Kurz met Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.

On 1 January 2017 Austria took over the chairmanship of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). Defusing current conflicts in the OSCE area, in particular in eastern Ukraine, is a central concern and a focus of the trip to Ukraine and Russia of Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz.
