Alexander van der Bellen wins Presidential election in Austria
Dr. Alexander Van der Bellen has won the Austrian presidential election 2016 with 53.8 percent of the vote.

Bristol Ambassadors' Breakfast on immigration, Vienna
Ambassador Ernst-Peter Brezovszky, who has been involved in the Ambassadors' Breakfast from the very beginning made a few introductory remarks to the Bristol Ambassadors' Breakfast, which took place in the Hotel Bristol in Vienna on 31 March 2016.

ARKEN Director Christian Gether receiving Austrian Cross of Honour for Science and Art 1st Class
On Friday, 18 March 2016, at a ceremony at the Austrian Residence in Copenhagen, the Austrian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Denmark Ernst-Peter Brezovszky bestowed the Austrian Cross of Honour for Science and Art 1st Class upon Mr. Christian Gether, Director ARKEN Museum of Modern Art. The laudatio was held by H.E. Mr. Bertel Haarder, Danish Minister for Culture and Ecclesiastical Affairs.

The international Vienna based diplomatic magazine SOCIETY has dedicated two pages to the Austrian Embassy's activities in Denmark, on which Ambassador Brezovszky is giving an overview of cultural and political topics and the relationship between the two countries.

AUSTRIA – AN INTERNATIONAL HOTSPOT FOR STARTUPS
The dynamic and innovative founder scene in Austria with an average age of 32.3 years is one of the youngest worldwide and increasingly attracts international attention. Forbes Magazine has counted Austria already among the startuphotspot in Europe for 2014.
The number of startups amid the daily 110 business formations is steadily increasing and 73% are initial foundings.
The highly skilled young entrepreneurs focus on the European and global market. Among the worldwide successful Austrian startups you find Runtastic (a standard fitness-app of the new Apple watch), Shpock (an app which enables direct sales and purchases within its more than 10 million users comprising network) as well as “Fastlane” (a project which was recently acquired by Twitter), and not least Blitab, the World Champion in Creative Entrepreneurship 2015 and winner of the CreativeBusinessCup in Copenhagen!
The Pioneers Festival - a yearly highlight of the startup community which takes place in the stunning historic Hofburg palace – brings together 1600 startups from 90 countries and 400 international investors.

Dinner in honour of Bertel Haarder, Danish Minister of Culture
The Austrian Ambassador had the honour to host a dinner for Danish Minister of Culture, Bertel Haarder, this Monday. Invited guests were leading personalities in the field of culture, among them Morten Kirkskov, Theatre Director at the Royal Theatre, Erland Kolding Nielsen, Director of the Royal Danish Library, Leif Lønsmann, Director DR Concert House, Sven Müller, Artistic Director at the Royal Danish Opera, Malene Truelsen, Administrative Director at the Royal Danish Opera, Christian Gether, Director Arken, as well as Member of Folketing, Morten Løkkegaard.

Morten Kjærum received High Austrian Decoration
On Monday, June 22nd 2015, the former Director of the EU Fundamental Rights Agency Vienna, Morten Kjærum, received the Grand Decoration of Honour in Gold with Star for Services to the Republic of Austria, out of the hands of Austrian Ambassador Peter Brezovszky.
The laudatio was held by Mogens Lykketoft, newly elected President of the United Nations General Assembly.
Ambassador Brezovszky: “Austrian Federal President Heinz Fischer has awarded this very high Austrian Decoration to Morten Kjærum in respect of Mr. Kjærum´s outstanding achievements for Human Rights in Europe and in the world. By making the EU Fundamental Rights Agency Vienna a strong and respected institution, he has also contributed to further strengthening Vienna as an international headquarters for 40 institutions and more than 6000 international civil servants.”
Since April 2015, Morten Kjærum has been the Director of the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law, Lund, Sweden.
Mogens Lykketoft, Speaker of the Danish Parliament, in Vienna
Friendly bilateral relations formed the predominant theme of the visit of Mogens Lykketoft, Speaker of the Danish Parliament and President-designate of the UN General Assembly, to the Austrian Nation Council President Doris Bures on April 28th.
Besides meeting Austrian Nation Council President Doris Bures, Lykketoft was also received by the Austrian Federal President Dr. Heinz Fischer.
Visit of the Governor of the Federal Province of Upper Austria Mr. Josef Pühringer and Delegation in Denmark
The Governor of the Federal Province of Upper Austria Mr. Josef Pühringer visited Denmark with a delegation of the Upper Austrian federal state government and the healthcare sector. The three-day long mission was organized by the Austrian Embassy in Copenhagen in cooperation with the Austrian Trade Commission aimed at the exchange of information and views on good practice in the field of healthcare.The high-ranking delegation met, inter alia, the Chairman of the Capital Region Sophie Hæstorp Andersen, Copenhagen Mayor of Health and Care Ninna Thomsen, the Chairman of the Central Denmark Region Bent Hansen, the Mayor of Aarhus Jacob Bundsgaard, Member of the Danish Parliament Bertel Haarder, Mayor of Helsingør Benedikte Kiær, WHO Regional Director for Europe Zsuzsanna Jakab, the rector of the University of Aarhus Brian Bech Nielsen, and the Chief Executive Officer at Aarhus University Hospital Gert Sørensen. Among others, they visited the University Hospital Skejby near Aarhus, the UN-City Copenhagen, and the Danish Industry Association with a meeting on Public Private Partnership in the healthcare sector.

Child custody and visiting rights across EU borders
The European Commission has kicked of a Europe-wide awareness campaign providing targeted information to international families on cross-border parental child abduction and child custody and visiting rights. This campaign aims to improve the families' understanding of their rights and obligations, to raise awareness of what help and rules exist in case international families decide to separate, and to support an agreement in the best interest of the child.
