An application for a Certificate of Good Conduct may be filed either in Austria (at the Police Departments in the main cities or at the mayor's office in the smaller towns/villages) or abroad (at an Austrian Embassy or Consulate).
The applicant has to show up at least once in person (either when filing the application or when picking up the certificate). It usually takes up to 10 business days to receive the certificate. If the application is mailed to the Austrian Consulate the applicant's signature has to be notarized by a public notary. A Money order addressed to the Austrian Consulate General New York is required.
Documents to be presented:
a) Criminal record application form (available only in German) Antragsformular Strafregisterbescheinigung
or Antrag auf Strafregisterbescheinigung für "Kinder- und Jugendfürsorge"
b) ID (e.g. passport)
c) birth certificate, marriage certificate, or divorce decree [if needed]
