The Mission
The Mission is taking care of Austria's relationship to NATO within the framework of the Partnership for Peace (PfP). It represents Austria in the Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council (EAPC) and in various committees in PfP-format. The diplomats at the Mission take part in meetings of the North Atlantic Council (NAC) in various Partner-formats, such as KFOR (a NATO-led UN-peacekeeping mission in Kosovo), to which Austria is an important troop contributor.
The Mission is the first point of contact for NATO regarding security policy related issues like the situation in the Middle East, new security challenges like hybrid threat scenarios and cyber security, but also humanitarian issues such as Protection of Civilians (PoC), UN-Security Council Resolution 1325 (Women, Peace and Security) or Children And Armed Conflict (CAAC). Together with other neutral or non-aligned Partner countries like Finland, Ireland, Sweden and Switzerland, Austria puts a focus on the latter issues in its cooperation with the Alliance.
In order to ensure a coherent Austrian position in both organisations, the Austrian Mission to NATO has regular exchanges with the Austrian representatives at the Political and Security Committee (PSC) of the EU on common issues. Likewise, the Mission coordinates with the Austrian representations to the United Nations and to the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).
