6. - 8. Mai: Workshop with Mr. Gerald Wirth in Hefei - World Masters in China
Mr. Gerald Wirth, The world famous choral conductor, composer and the artistic director of the Vienna Boys Choir, gives a special workshop/master class to app. 400 music teachers in Hefei, province Anhui during the 6th – 8th May 2013.
Choir singing means not only a beautiful music activity for the participating members, but also it contributes to the all-around development of the personal characteristics and makes an important contribution to the society. Like the economic growth, the choir activities in China are also growing rapidly since last 10 years. Numerous schools opened and built up student’s choirs to expend the music educational contents. Along with the Chinese traditional songs and music works, students enjoy the classical music and choir repertoires from Europe. Schubert, Mozart as well as Anton Bruckner and Johann Strauss are familiar names in the mind of Chinese students. Demand on scores and training methods of choral singing exist since years.
Mr. Gerald Wirth’s main interest is working with choirs. He is much in demand as choral clinician, and has held international workshops on choral conducting, voice training and performance. As a composer, Wirth is constantly seeking new challenges and frontiers. His works are often inspired by myths and philosophical texts. In his music, he likes to combine elements of Gregorian chant with elements of ethnic music, and he makes use of strong rhythms. Gerald Wirth is convinced that music has a positive influence on every aspect of personality and he encourages his students to realize their potential. “A choir consists of many individuals who are supposed to act as a team, or even as one person. A concert can only be truly good if and when everyone adds his own personality to the mix. But if that happens, it’s magic.”
During his music activities in the past years, Mr. Gerald Wirth developed a special method to train choirs, which is call “The Wirth-Method”. The Wirth-Method bridges the gap between group entertainment and talent development on a high artistic level. It is the first method to completely integrate all possible aspects of musical education. Today the Vienna boys choir is using this method and benefits a lot from the know-how and experiences of Gerald Wirth.
During the 3 days workshop/master class in Hefei, Gerald Wirth will teach and train choirs from several schools selected from the Province, and share his methods and knowledge with the attending conductors of several hundreds of schools mostly from the province, but also from all parts of China. “This will be a great event not only for all of us. An important step to help the music education in the province and to enhance the culture and music exchange and co-operation between Austria and China” says Dr. Jian Wang, coordinator of the project.
The event is a non-profit oriented project, supported by a series of Government authorities, NGO organizations and enterprises, such as the education commission of the municipal government of Hefei, The World Organization for Promoting Music and Arts Education, the Australian Consulate-General Shanghai, the Austrian Cultural Forum, Masters International, Eastvision, Future China Foundation etc.
