Austria contributes to the Auschwitz Memorial
Austria will contribute six million Euros to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation in order to preserve the former concentration camp as a memorial. Austrian Foreign Minister Michael Spindelegger transmitted this message officially to his Polish counterpart Radoslaw Sikorski on 3 March 2010. „This obligation stems from our history“ Spindelegger said at the joint press conference in Warsaw.
In order to enable the preservation of the endangered Auschwitz memorial site, a foundation was established in 2008 with the aim of reaching a fund totaling 120 million Euros.
