Vienna, 17 April 2013– "Austria and Luxembourg have been cooperating with great success in education, science and research for many years. The three agreements between universities that are being signed today are an important step towards deepening this cooperation", Reinhold Lopatka said on the occasion of the ceremonial signing of the agreements in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Luxembourg, Jean Asselborn.
The three agreements between the University of Luxembourg and the Vienna and Innsbruck Universities and the Vienna University of Technology cover leading-edge areas of basic research. These are precisely the areas that provide important impetus for business. Last year, a cooperation agreement between the institutes of fundamental research, the Luxembourg Centre National de la Recherche (CNR) and the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) was signed, paving the way for closer cooperation between academics and research scientists from Luxembourg and Austria.
"I am pleased to see that Austria – and the universities of Vienna and Innsbruck in particular – are still so very popular with students from Luxembourg. The exchange will contribute to the good reputation of Austria as a place where science happens", the State Secretary said.
"I hope that we will also succeed in motivating more highly-qualified Austrian scientists for the science exchange with Luxembourg. The agreements signed today are definitely a good starting point", Lopatka concluded.
