Wien, 19. December 2013 Press release

Organisation of the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs and Integration

Vienna, 19 December 2013 – The new Austrian Minister for Integration, European and International Affairs, Sebastian Kurz, relies on the expertise in the Ministry and its typical cooperative style with close involvement of the individual departments in the context of the responsibilities and organisation of his Ministry. Very close and tightly coordinated cooperation with Secretary General Dr. Michael Linhart, the highest-ranking official in the Foreign Ministry, is particularly important to Minister Kurz who has also appointed new members of his personal office. Dr. Nikolaus Marschik, former head of the Department for Administrative Affairs and Infrastructure, has been appointed Chief of Cabinet, a post that he had already held under former Foreign Minister Dr. Ursula Plassnik. Mag. Gerald Fleischmann, the former spokesman of the State Secretary for Integration, will act as press secretary of the Minister and will be supported by Mag. Etienne Berchtold, until recently advisor at the Austrian Permanent Representation in Brussels and before that in charge of PR at Shell Austria.

Mag. Alexander Schallenberg, spokesman of the Federal Ministers over the past eight years and recently also Vice-Chief of Cabinet, will in future be in charge of strategic foreign policy planning at the Ministry for European and International Affairs and Integration.
Integration matters will remain under the reliable and competent leadership of the director of the department, Dr. Stefan Steiner, who can look back on several years of experience in this field.

The role of spokesman of the Foreign Ministry and Director of the press office of the Ministry will remain in the trusted hands of Mag. Martin Weiss, a highly experienced crisis communications manager.
