Spindelegger shocked by attack on US consulate in Bengazhi

Vienna, 12 September 2012 – “I am deeply shocked and condemn in the strongest terms the murder of US Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other consulate employees in Bengazhi. My deepest condolences go to the families of the victims”, Austrian Vice-Chancellor and Foreign Minister Michael Spindelegger said.

”A targeted attack on the diplomats of another state is an especially despicable crime and moreover a flagrant violation of international law. The perpetrators must be quickly brought to justice”, Spindelegger said. The Foreign Minister called on Libya to urgently introduce all necessary measures to ensure the safety of diplomats and the employees of embassies and international organisations in the country. ”The new Libya, which received such clear support from the international community during its fight for freedom, must draw a clear line here.”
