Vienna, 17 August 2011 - „This summer too, has shown that unfortunately situations may arise in which Austrians require help and information while abroad. With the new App by the Foreign Ministry, they have a safe escort for their stay abroad“, said Foreign Minister Michael Spindelegger today during the event held at the Vienna Airport together with the President of FlyNiki, Niki Lauda, the CEO of Austrian Airlines Andreas Bierwirth and Vienna Airport Board Member Ernest Gabmann to present the first smartphone application by the Foreign Ministry.
„With the new App installed on the smartphone, our services will fit in any luggage and offer important tips for emergencies, wherever and whenever needed“, explained the Foreign Minister.
Niki Lauda commented on the new App by the Foreign Ministry: „Reliable and easy-to-get information – this is a positive and useful initiative that our customers will appreciate. This initiative is useful, praiseworthy, and keeps up with the times. The most essential feature is that it offers objective, unbiased first-hand news. This is a positive project by the Ministry.“ Austrian Airlines CEO Andreas Bierwirth also acknowledges the benefits of this mobile service: „This new App is a great service for travellers. This is especially true for our customers, since our 130 destinations worldwide include many countries outside the western world – like countries in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, or Asia. The travel alerts and emergency tips are very helpful at these destinations.“
The new, free service by the Foreign Ministry can be downloaded as an App and offers Austrians useful information in connection with travelling. The App was developed for iPhone, Blackberry, and Android phones. In addition to important country information, last-minute travel alerts and helpful tips for emergencies abroad, the App also provides contact information for all Austrian embassies and consulates anytime.
All information on the new App is available at www.auslandsservice.at. Of course, important information on travel abroad will continue to be available on the homepage of the Foreign Ministry at www.bmeia.gv.at.
