Opening of Honorary Consulate in Kayseri

Kayseri, 29 April 2010 – The new Austrian Honorary Consulate was opened in Kayseri on 27 April 2010 by Ambassador Mrs. Gürer in the presence of the Governor of Kayseri, Mevlüt Bilici. Ahmet Eglenceoglu was appointed Honorary Consul. Mr. Eglenceoglu, who attended a ski boot manufacturer and ski instructor training in Vorarlberg, is now in charge of developing Kayseri into the largest ski sports centre in Turkey in cooperation with several Austrian companies.

On the occasion of the opening, a workshop on winter and alpine sports was organized by the Foreign Trade Office in Ankara in cooperation with Austrian experts and companies as well as with Turkish commerce chambers and universities, during which a tourism master plan developed by an Austrian company for Kayseri was presented.

Kayseri is a dynamic Anatolian metropolis, with a rapid economic development and a close proximity to one of Turkey’s major tourist attractions: Cappadocia. The visit by Federal President Fischer in Kayseri in 2008 greatly contributed toward boosting bilateral economic relations.

After Antakya, Antalya, Bodrum, Bursa, Izmir, and Mersin, Kayseri is now the seventh port of call for Austrians in Turkey. Further honorary consulates are planned for Edirne, Gaziantep, und Samsun.
