Foreign Minister congratulates Bishop Kräutler

Vienna, 30 September 2010 – Foreign Minister Michael Spindelegger congratulated Vorarlberg-born Dom Erwin Kräutler for receiving the Right Livelihood Award, known as the "Alternative Nobel Prize": "This distinction is an expression of the great appreciation for his tireless commitment to human rights and environmental protection. Bishop Kräutler is an admonisher and a helper, whose impact reaches far beyond the borders of Brazil. His commitment and courage are exemplary."

Austria already acknowledged the work of Bishop Kräutler by awarding him the Grand Decoration of Honour in Gold with Star in 2009.
