Brass band from Lower Austria celebrates huge success at St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Dublin

Dublin, 18 March 2010 – The LYRA musical society, a music ensemble consisting of some 50 committed brass players from Wiener Neudorf in Lower Austria participated yesterday at this year’s traditional St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Dublin. Apart from the Austrians, music bands from the USA, Great Britain, France, and Spain marched and played at the parade. There was a huge outburst of joy at the end of the parade when prizes were awarded for the band performances: The LYRA musical society received the first prize! Yesterday evening, the musicians from Wiener Neudorf took the silver cup from the hands of the Mayor of Dublin in her office, thanking her with a serenade. Irish media continuously reported on the success of the Austrian musicians who - apart from the live coverage of the parade – performed once again on Irish television on the same evening. The achievement of the Austrian band was on everyone’s lips in the Irish capital, re-asserting Austria’s image as a country of music. The LYRA musical society is expected to arrive at the Vienna Airport tonight at 8.10 pm.
