Mexico City, 22 March 2010 – The opening of the dynamic(in)position exhibition - jointly curated by Ars Electronica and fmx-Festival de México, the largest cultural festival in the Mexican capital - saw a stampede of visitors. Austrian Ambassador Dr. Alfred Längle and the heads of the two festivals, Gerfried Stocker (Ars Electronica) and José Wolfer (Festival de México), welcomed some 800 visitors to the Laboratorio Arte Alameda, the experimentally designed venue in the centre of Mexico City, where four of eight interactive multimedia installations will be on show until April.
In addition to artists from Canada, Spain and Latin America, Kurt Hentschläger and the Linz-based duo Christa Sommerer and Laurent Mignonneau represent Austria at the exhibition. Lectures and workshops complete the multi-faceted programme of this first Mexican project by Ars Electronica, which was founded in Linz in 1979.
Ambassador Längle emphasised the importance of the exhibition as Austria’s high-quality cultural contribution to Mexico’s bicentennial celebrations. Indeed, this year commemorates both the outbreak of Mexico’s fight for independence in 1810 as well as the onset of the Mexican Revolution in 1910.
