Cairo, 3 March 2010 – The first gathering of Egyptian graduates of Austrian universities, especially those who studied with scholarships of the Austrian Development Cooperation, took place on 24 and 25 February 2010 at the Austrian Cultural Forum in Cairo under the title „International Cooperation and Innovation“. The gathering was jointly organized by the Austrian Oriental Society and the Austrian Cultural Forum in Cairo. The aim of the event was to create a network of scientists in Egypt with links to Austria, thus promoting cooperation in several different scientific and economic areas.
Several renowned speakers from Egypt, Austria, Peru, Germany, and Turkey informed the participants about development opportunities in the Arab region and the possibilities of international cooperation between business and research.
Apart from the presentation of selected cooperation projects between Egypt and Austria, the interactive workshops helped lay the cornerstone for the implementation of further projects.
The meeting was attended by several successful Egyptian graduates, including Dr. Wafaa El-Saddik, General Director of the Egyptian National Museum in Cairo, and university professors from different areas such as chemistry, physics, medicine, German philology, and culture.
Due to the great success of the first meeting, the organizers envisage a continuation and further expansion of such alumni initiatives for 2011.
