Vienna, 29 December 2009 - "Christmas in Austria has become unthinkable without the carol singers’ campaign. It is impressive to see the enthusiasm with which these girls and boys are actively engaged in their free time as carol singers, collecting donations for suffering people in developing countries. They are thus making an important contribution to security and development in the world’s poorer countries, giving hope and a perspective for the future to the people there", said Foreign Minister Michael Spindelegger during a visit to the Foreign Ministry by the carol singers of the youth organisation Katholische Jungschar.
"For the carol singers - just as with the Austrian Development Cooperation – , the main focus is on the notion of partnership, because this is about helping people help themselves", said Spindelegger. Last year, the carol singers’ campaign helped collect a total of almost 14 million euros. The financed projects are also supported by the Austrian Development Cooperation through the organisation HORIZONT3000. "I hope that this year the campaign will be equally successful", said the Foreign Minister.
