Vatican, 14 October 2009 - The exchange of the ratification documents on the Sixth Supplementary Concordat between Austria and the Holy See took place today on 14 October in the Apostolic Palace of the Vatican. The Treaty governs the proprietary relation between the two states, and had become necessary in order to perform a value adjustment of the fixed annual amount given as a support to the Catholic Church in Austria.
The exchange of the documents was carried out by Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, Vatican Secretary of State, and the Austrian Ambassador Martin Bolldorf in the presence of Vatican Foreign Minister Archbishop Dominique Mamberti. In his speech after the exchange of the documents, Cardinal Secretary of State Bertone emphasized the good cooperation with Austria. Moreover, he mentioned the special importance of Austria for Pope Benedict, and the Pope’s visit to Austria two years ago.
