Austria presents Joseph Haydn’s works in Hong Kong

Hong Kong, 11 November 2009 - On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, the Austrian Consulate General in Hong Kong will be presenting the comprehensive works of Joseph Haydn with a series of events in cooperation with the academy.

The "Academy Haydn Festival" is taking place from 10 November to 13 December 2009 and will be featuring concerts, expert lectures, and the Austrian exhibition "Haydn - a musical universal genius", which has already successfully been on display in several cities around the world.The exhibition was compiled by the "International Joseph Haydn Private Foundation" and the Burgenland Haydn Festival.

Moreover, the Hong Kong-based Austrian shipowner and arts patron Dr. Helmut Sohmen announced a composition competition at the music academies in Vienna and Hong Kong on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the death of Joseph Haydn.

The works of the two young prize winners - the Austrian composer and violinist Thomas Wally and the up-and-coming Hong Kong composer Tang Lok-yin - will be having their (world) premiere on 28 November 2009 in the Grosser Saal of the ORF Funkhaus in Vienna, and on 1 February 2010 in the hall of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.
