Plassnik: "Information is an important prerequisite for raising awareness about Europe"

Foreign Minister congratulates editor of Die Presse newspaper on prize from European Parliament

New York, 17 October 2008 - "Warmest congratulations, I am delighted at this recognition of great professionalism," stated Foreign Minister Ursula Plassnik today, referring to the journalist award conferred by the European Parliament upon Wolfgang Böhm, an editor of Die Presse newspaper.

"Information on the EU is a matter of importance to us all: the media, the social partners and politicians at all levels. There can be no European Union without Europeans. The most important prerequisite for raising awareness of Europe is objective information, making people aware of the importance of the EU and our options for co-shaping this new Europe. Wolfgang Böhm sets standards in this regard," concluded Plassnik.
