Berlin, 28 October 2008 – On the occasion of the Austrian National Holiday, the Austrian Culture Forum in Berlin is presenting the latest works of two promising talents among Austria’s young generation of painters, Bianca Regl and Robert Muntean, who shifted the center of their creative life to Berlin this year.
The two young artists have succeeded at an early stage to attract the attention of large private collections and renowned Austrian galleries. Works by Bianca Regl were bought by one of the largest Austrian private collections – the Essl collection – and, since winning the 2007 STRABAG ART AWARD, Robert Muntean also ranks among the artists whose paintings are sought by STRABAG’s ART COLLECTION.
Bianca Regl was born in 1980 in Linz, studied painting and drawing at the Arts University of Linz, was a masterclass student for painting with Professor Hubert Schmalix at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, and spent a study year in Los Angeles before completing her studies in Vienna in 2006. Robert Muntean was born in Leoben in 1982, studied and graduated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna - also with Professor Hubert Schmalix -, and went on to improve his skills at the Leipzig Academy for Graphic Arts and Book Design in 2006-2007.
The exhibition in the gallery of the Austrian Culture Forum will combine Bianca Regl's powerful orchid images, which she painted in Berlin, with Robert Muntean’s latest coloured human images. The contradiction between the generous brushstrokes by Bianca Regl, whose focus is on the tangibility of surface, and Robert Muntean's depth-oriented noble colours which seduce with their lightness and presence, shows the stylistic independence and maturity of two young individuals whose artistic journey through life was influenced by their affinity to the Neue Malerei of Hubert Schmalix.
The exhibition will be open to the public in the embassy until the beginning of January 2009.
