Foreign Minister presents new citizens’ services at Foreign Ministry Open Day
Vienna, 26 October 2007 - "At your service worldwide - this is not simply a slogan but rather our assignment on behalf of all Austrians in the world", stated Foreign Minister Ursula Plassnik at today’s Open Day at the Foreign Ministry, where she presented new aspects of the citizens’ service. As from now, it has become even simpler for Austrians facing an emergency abroad to turn to the Ministry and the respective representation.
For this purpose a new security card has been created. In a handy easy-to-carry credit card format, it contains all contact information required by Austrians living abroad or Austrian tourists facing a sudden emergency abroad, such as unforeseen financial problems arising through no fault of one’s own, cases of illness or death, loss or theft of travel documents, etc. For such emergencies the Foreign Ministry has established a round-the-clock team that provides quick and unbureaucratic help.
Another innovation are the red-white-red rescue jackets that are currently being dispatched to all Austrian representations abroad. In case of emergency all members of Austrian rescue teams wearing these jackets can be immediately recognised and contacted. "These innovations constitute a further important step in our efforts to improve our citizens’ service and help all Austrians abroad in crisis situations", concluded Plassnik.
