Vienna, 9 October 2007 - The Austrian Library in Olmütz, established at the chair for German studies at the University’s Philosophical Faculty is celebrating its 15th anniversary in October 2007. The Austrian Library is celebrating this anniversary with an Open House on 9 October. On this occasion, an official ceremony will be taking place in the presence of the Austrian Ambassador in the Czech Republic, Margot Klestil-Löffler, the Head of the Directorate-General for Cultural Policy at the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs, Ambassador Emil Brix, and the Director of the Austrian Cultural Forum in Prague, Walter Persché, during which the Czech-Austrian "Culture Autumn" will be opened in Olmütz.
"The Austrian Libraries in Central and Eastern Europe are the most important information instrument for Austrian cultural work abroad. Together with the Cultural Forums, the Libraries play an important role in the establishment of scientific and cultural contacts. The presence of an Austrian Library in Olmütz reflects the significance of this city as a centre of science and culture. On the other hand, the active cultural and scientific cooperation helps strengthen the neighbourly relations between the Czech Republic and Austria", stressed Ambassador Emil Brix.
The Austrian Cultural Forum in Prague took the anniversary of the Austrian Library as an opportunity to initiate a Czech-Austrian "Culture Autumn" together with partners in Olmütz in 2007, during which a series of joint events is scheduled to take place.
