In addition to Winkler, the Troika delegation comprises the High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, Javier Solana, and the British Foreign Office Minister, Lord David Triesman, who are accompanied by a representative of the European Commission.
Central themes of the visit will be the further implementation of the "Comprehensive Peace Agreement" for the solution of the North-South conflict as well as a meeting with the Sudanese Government, which has been in office since 20 September 2005.
State Secretary Winkler will also take this opportunity to meet with the Austrian peace-keeping troops in Khartoum. At present, five members of the Austrian armed forces are participating in a mission in Sudan within the framework of UNMIS (United Nations Mission in the Sudan).
