Talks will focus on the preparation of the Austrian and Finnish EU Presidencies
Vienna, 5 August 2005 - On 8 August 2005, Foreign Minister Ursula Plassnik will meet her Finnish counterpart Erkki Tuomioja in Helsinki. Their talks will focus on the common EU work programme for 2006, which is being drawn up under the auspices of Austria and Finland, who will take over the EU Presidencies in 2006. Furthermore, the two Foreign Ministers will discuss international affairs and current EU issues.
The EU work programme for 2006 will give priority to the implementation of the revised Lisbon strategy on growth and employment, the examination of the EU sustainability strategy; the fight against terrorism; the strengthening of the EU crisis reaction capability; the European Neighbourhood Policy and the Stabilisation and Association process in the Western Balkans.
The discussions will be followed by an unofficial dinner party which the Swedish Foreign Minister Laila Freivalds, the Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Paet, and Finland’s Trade and Development Minister Paula Lehtomäki are expected to join.
