Vienna, 8 November 2005 - On 7 and 8 November 2005, the Department for Cultural Policy of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs organised, together with the Austrian Academy of Sciences (AASc), the Austrian Institute for Eastern and South-Eastern Europe (AIESEE) and the Austrian Society for Literature, the "Culture/Translation - knowledge and cultural transfer within the network of Austrian Libraries Abroad" workshop.
The event, which is part of the cultural policy focus of the South-Eastern Europe "Culture for Stability" program of international cultural policy, will bring together renowned experts and representatives of Austrian institutions. They will talk about the prospects for cultural networks and provide information about possible subsidies to strengthen these networks within the community of Austrian Libraries Abroad.
Austrian Libraries Abroad can be found in 51 locations, for the most part in the academic environment of university faculties, institutes or libraries, and constitute a source of information of importance to teachers and students alike.
The workshop offers the participants the opportunity of developing joint projects and activities. One example is the finalisation of an initiative on thematic cooperation between the individual Austrian Libraries Abroad, particularly in the field of scientific projects. In this way the meeting should help to further strengthen the network character of Austrian Libraries Abroad.
