Vienna, 20 June 2004 - Austrian Foreign Minister Benita Ferrero-Waldner will be visiting Macedonia on Monday. Within the framework of her official visit, Ferrero-Waldner will be meeting for talks with Foreign Minister Ilinka MITREVA, Prime Minister Hari KOSTOV and the President of the Republic of Macedonia, Brank CRVENKOVSKI.
The objective of Ferrero-Waldner’s visit to Skopje is to gather the different opinions on the Ohrid Framework Agreement in the personal talks she will be conducting. With this in mind, the Foreign Minister will also be meeting the Chairman of the ethnic Albanian government party DIU, Ali Ahmeti, and the Chairman of VMRO-DPMNE, Nikola Gruevski. Some observers view the Ohrid Framework Agreement as a possible approach to a solution for the Kosovo issue. "During my visit to Skopje I would like to gain a personal impression of its practical implementation and find out whether the Ohrid Framework Agreement or some of its elements might offer a suitable approach for Kosovo," said the Foreign Minister.
In the context of these talks Ferrero-Waldner also intends to discuss issues regarding the preparations for EU membership as well as the impacts of the Kosovo crisis on Macedonia.
