Second Austro-Polish Prize for Journalism awarded to Barbara Radzikowska-Krysczak

Media work as a mirror of reality with the focus on dismantling prejudices and illusions

Vienna, 8 July 2003 - On 7 July Barbara Radzikowska-Krysczak, the Vienna correspondent of Polish Radio, was chosen as this year's winner of the Euro 4,000 Austro-Polish Prize for Journalism. The Prize, which is sponsored by the Bank Austria - Creditanstalt Group (BA-CA) and its Polish subsidiary, Bank Przemyslowo Handlowy PBK (BPH-PBK), was awarded this year for the second time and was jointly presented by the Secretary-General of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Johannes Kyrle, the Polish Ambassador to Austria, Irena Lipowicz, and Regina Prehofer, Member of the Managing Board of the BA-CA Group.

Initiated by the then Polish Foreign Minister Wladyslaw Bartoszewski and Austrian Minister for Foreign Affairs Benita Ferrero-Waldner during the latter's visit to Warsaw on 17 July 2001, the Prize was awarded for the first time last year to the Austrian journalist Burkhard Bischof of the daily broadsheet "Die Presse".

The Austro-Polish Prize for Journalism is awarded on an alternating basis in Austria and Poland for outstanding journalistic contributions in the print media, TV and/or radio that promote mutual understanding between the two countries and contribute towards better information of the population. The jury, which is composed of Austrian and Polish media experts and journalists, decided to award this year's Prize to Mrs. Radzikowska-Krysczak in recognition of both her high journalistic standards and the great variety of her work.

Nominations for the Third Austro-Polish Prize for Journalism, which will this time be presented to an Austrian journalist, are being accepted from now until the closing date of 31 July 2003. Eligible for nomination are journalistic contributions published in the period from 1 July 2002 until 30 June 2003.
