Jerusalem, 29 July 2003 - On the occasion of her bilateral visit to Israel Foreign Minister Ferrero-Waldner today met for talks with her Israeli counterpart Silvan Shalom. In a press conference following the meeting Foreign Minister Shalom announced that Israel will resume full diplomatic relations with Austria and that the country will be dispatching a bilateral ambassador to Vienna. Minister for Foreign Affairs Ferrero-Waldner welcomed this move: "I am glad that the moment for normalisation of our relations with Israel has now arrived," she said.
Further highlights on the Foreign Minister's itinerary were a meeting with the Israeli President Moshe Katsav and a visit to the Yad Vashem holocaust memorial.
