Spindelegger: "United Arab Emirates – the prudent player in the Middle East"
Austria's Vice-Chancellor meets the United Arab Emirates Minister of Foreign Affairs in Vienna
Vienna, 10 June 2013 – Bilateral relations, developments in the Arab transformation process and the crisis in Syria were the central items on the agenda of today's meeting between Austrian Vice-Chancellor and Foreign Minister Michael Spindelegger and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, in Vienna.
"Today's meeting only a few months after my visit to the United Arab Emirates illustrates the bond between our two states and the dynamic developments in our bilateral relations", Spindelegger said after the meeting with his counterpart. Another expression of the good relations is the 7th Joint Commission of the United Arab Emirates and Austria that is currently meeting in Vienna to discuss options for further enhancement of relations. "The focus continues to be on expanding our business relations, but there are numerous other areas offering themselves for cooperation and exchange of experience between authorities and public institutions", Spindelegger said.
"I have also used the opportunity to discuss the security situation in the Middle East in great detail", Spindelegger said. The discussions revolved around the challenges facing the transformation states in the Arab World and possible ways to support these comprehensive transition processes. The crisis in Syria was also discussed. "In their capacity of co-chairman of the Economic Reconstruction and Development in Syria working group within the Friends of Syria Group, the Arab Emirates play a central role in this field", Spindelegger concluded.
