Spindelegger: "Constant watchfulness essential against right-wing activities"
Call of Austrian Vice-Chancellor and Foreign Minister on International Holocaust Remembrance Day
Vienna, 26 January 2013 – "The concentration and extermination camp of Auschwitz must be a constant reminder to us all as a symbol of the unspeakable crimes of National Socialism that we must take a clear and uncompromising stand against any attempt to deny or minimise these crimes", Austrian Vice-Chancellor and Foreign Minister Michael Spindelegger said on the occasion of the on International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
Spindelegger recalled that only a few days ago a right-wing radical network had been uncovered in Upper Austria and he extended thanks to the police for their successful action. "It is the joint task of politics, the executive and civil society to establish clear limits here and to defend with determination the values of our pluralistic society, in particular those of democracy and tolerance” the Foreign Minister said.
The Foreign Minister also drew attention to the leading role taken by Austria in international forums such as the International Alliance for the Remembrance of the Holocaust, which is intensively involved with countering the problem of denial and minimising of the Holocaust.
