Spindelegger: “Idle run in Middle East increases extremist danger for the region”
Vienna, 25 April 2012 – Austrian Vice Chancellor and Foreign Minister Michael Spindelegger received Palestinian chief negotiator Saeb Erekat today. Erekat informed the Vice Chancellor about the latest developments in the Middle East and the Palestinian assessment of the chances for resumption of the peace process by Israel and the Palestinian authorities.
Spindelegger: “The continuing idle run in the Middle East peace process is not only frustrating for all sides involved. It also results in a massive increase in the danger to the stability of the region posed by extremists. It would be seriously negligent in the face of the current struggles in Syria to lose sight of the necessity for the resumption of serious Israeli-Palestinian negotiations.I thus appeal for both sides to demonstrate their serious interest in purposeful negotiations and to work out a joint solution for an end to the conflict.”
