Spindelegger: “Must make the benefits of the EU visible again in everyday life“
Vice-Chancellor visited his former gymnasium in Mödling and discussed Europe with students
Mödling, 21 December 2011 – “The EU remains a truly successful project in the history of Europe. We benefit from the advantages of the EU on a daily basis, and they have become an indispensable part of our everyday life“, stressed Foreign Minister Michael Spindelegger this morning during conversations he had with students in the Keimgasse gymnasium in Mödling, the school he himself had attended in the past.
As part of the exhibition titled "The EU & You - a success story with a future" developed by the Foreign Ministry, the Austrian Society for European Policy and the Representation of the European Commission in Austria, Foreign Minister Michael Spindelegger took the time to listen to students, to discuss with them and to show those areas in which the EU has become indispensable in everyday life. “For instance, when travelling without border controls, in the exchange of students, or in consumer protection“, Spindelegger pointed out.
Other issues addressed included the Euro rescue fund and the debt brake. “The EU is currently going through turbulent times, and we have huge tasks to tackle. As a part of the European Union, we are in a better position to meet these challenges. Especially in times of crisis, it is therefore important to make the European success project visible again“, emphasized the Foreign Minister, “because we live Europe every day, and it matters to all of us.“
