Spindelegger: “Conflict on Korean peninsula must not be allowed to escalate”
Foreign Minister deeply concerned about the most recent incident on the Korean peninsula
Vienna, 24 November 2010 – Foreign Minister Michael Spindelegger expressed his deep concern about the recent incident on the Korean peninsula in which a North Korean artillery attack caused both military and civilian casualties on the South Korean side. “The ceasefire agreement between the two countries must be complied with, there must not be any further violence”, stated the Foreign Minister. “I appeal to both sides to act reasonably in order not to fan the flames in this highly sensitive region. Stability on the Korean peninsula cannot be achieved by force, but only through negotiations”, concluded Spindelegger.
