Plassnik on remarks by the Iranian President
Vienna, 8 December 2005 - Referring to the remarks made by the Iranian President on Israel and broadcast today by the media, Foreign Minister Ursula Plassnik stated that such comments had to be emphatically rejected.
The Foreign Minister pointed out that on 27 October she had already described earlier remarks by the Iranian President as "completely unacceptable", emphasising that "Israel’s right to exist must not be called into doubt."
Plassnik has asked the Austrian Ambassador to Iran for a further report and has instructed the Secretary General for Foreign Affairs to summon the Iranian Ambassador in Vienna to the Ministry for Foreign Affairs to clarify the matter.
