Ferrero-Waldner calls upon Europe’s citizens to use their votes to shape Europe on 13 June
Vienna, 3 June 2004 - Austrian Foreign Minister Benita Ferrero-Waldner today signed the call issued by the French European Affairs Minister Claudie Haigneré appealing to Europe’s citizens to cast their vote in the elections to the European Parliament on 13 June: "it is Europe that is at stake in this election, and Europe concerns us all. The elections to the European Parliament allow you to have your say in the future of the continent and to give shape to the European project," the Foreign Minister said. In addition, Ferrero-Waldner emphasised the increasing importance of the European Parliament among the EU institutions: "over the next five years, the European Parliament will have a say in decisions with a significant impact on Europe and the future of its citizens."
With her appeal, Foreign Minister Ferrero-Waldner added her voice to those of the European Union’s other 24 ministers responsible for European affairs, who also signed the call.
