Austrian Cultural Forum in New York selected as one of "New York's future landmarks"
Distinction for the showpiece of modern Austria in New York
New York/Vienna, 13 May 2004 - New York's highly distinguished "Municipal Art Society" (www.mas.org) commissioned a jury of prominent experts to identify a list of 30 buildings erected in New York over the past 30 years that are to be honoured as future landmarks of the city. The newly built Austrian Cultural Forum, Austria's architectural calling card in the world metropolis, was selected from more than 150 buildings - nominated by Members of the Municipal Art Society, design professionals and the interested public - for inclusion in the now published list of 30 future monuments. One objective of the list entitled "30 UNDER 30: A Watch List of Future Landmarks" is to ensure that the 30 buildings selected - which according to the Municipal Art Society will be considered "historic" by future generations - will survive long enough to tell the story of architecture in the late 20th century. The jury included among others the renowned architecture and design curator of the Museum of Modern Art, Paola Antonelli, and the distinguished New York architecture critic Joseph Giovannini.
