ESA, CERN, IIASA, COST
Austria is a full member of the most important organisations for scientific and technical co-operation in Europe: These are the European Space Agency (ESA) in Paris, the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT) in Darmstadt, the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Geneva and the centre for European Co-operation in the Field of Scientific and Technical Research (COST) in Brussels.
Together with the Federal Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs represents Austria in the decision-making bodies of these organisations.
Furthermore, the Ministry for European and International Affairs is in charge of foreign-policy aspects of Austria's membership and host country status relating to the International Institute for Applied System Analysis (IIASA) at Laxenburg, as well as the country's membership in the European Molecular Biology Laboratory in Heidelberg and the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts in Reading/GB.
